What should a modern community pharmacy look like? For us, it is a place people turn to for accessible care, trusted advice and services that meet their needs. It is also a business with the confidence, capacity and income to keep investing in its people and its future.
That is why Pharmacy Mentor is proud to support the Modern Community Pharmacy Practice movement, or MCPP. Our visions are closely aligned: a thriving pharmacy brings together clinical care, a clear business direction and a patient experience that works both online and in person.
With Michael Holden, Victoria Steele and our founder Saam Ali speaking at The Pharmacy Show on 11–12 October 2026 at the NEC Birmingham, there is a timely opportunity to explore what that future means for your pharmacy.
What does MCPP stand for?
MCPP stands for Modern Community Pharmacy Practice. It describes a way of developing community pharmacy around the needs of patients, the capabilities of the team and the long-term sustainability of the business.

The movement’s ambition brings together NHS and private clinical services, support for self-care, stronger teamwork and effective use of technology. Good governance and a positive patient experience are central to that vision.
For an owner, the question becomes: how do we organise our people, services and systems so that the pharmacy can deliver more value to its community and remain financially healthy?
What is the MCPP movement?
The movement helps pharmacy owners and teams turn that ambition into action. It encourages them to develop a shared direction, build their capabilities and work with others who can help them make progress.
We like the practicality of that approach. Change is easier to sustain when the whole team understands what the pharmacy is trying to achieve, how their work contributes and which improvements matter first.
The Vision to Profit model explained
MCPP’s Vision to Profit model focuses on the parts of a pharmacy business that owners can influence directly. It supports the delivery of both contracted and private services, while recognising that national funding, legislation and regulation sit beyond an individual owner’s control.
Its underlying principle is a move “from transaction to intervention”: putting greater emphasis on the value of professional care and the outcomes it creates for patients and the pharmacy.
The MCPP plan identifies leadership, business planning and marketing as foundations. It offers free resources, including an overview, framework, roadmap, self-assessment and action plan. Owners can use these to agree a vision with their team, identify priorities and set objectives with clear actions, responsibilities and review points.
Our view is that profit has an essential role in that picture. A sustainable service gives a pharmacy the ability to invest in training, improve its premises and systems, and keep providing care. The work is in designing a service that is useful to patients and viable to deliver.
Why our vision is aligned
At Pharmacy Mentor, we see the website, the consultation room and the pharmacy counter as parts of the same patient journey. Someone might discover a service through a search, read about it on their phone, book an appointment and then meet the team in person. Each step needs to make sense.
A pharmacy can invest in an excellent clinical service and still struggle if people do not know it exists, cannot understand who it is for or find booking difficult. Equally, more enquiries only help when the team has the capacity and processes to respond well.
MCPP’s wider focus on leadership, people and service delivery fits naturally with our work on visibility and digital access. That shared purpose is why we support the movement and are included among its trusted partners.
How Pharmacy Mentor supports the movement
Helping people understand what their pharmacy can do
Through pharmacy branding, clear service content and consistent communication, we help pharmacies explain their role and services to their communities. A strong identity gives patients a clearer sense of the people behind their care.
Making services easier to find and access
Our pharmacy websites and SEO work connect service information with a clear next step. Whether someone needs to make an enquiry, understand an appointment or book, the journey should be straightforward on a mobile phone as well as a desktop.
Connecting marketing with a realistic service plan
Paid advertising, social media and local search can help build awareness. We believe they work best when linked to a defined service, an audience the pharmacy can support and enough team capacity to deliver a good experience. The business plan should guide the campaign.
Making digital improvements useful to the team
Better forms, clearer booking routes and joined-up patient communication can reduce friction for patients and staff. We help owners think through the journey, then use evidence from enquiries and bookings to identify where it needs to improve.
That is the contribution we want to make to MCPP: helping pharmacies turn their direction into an online presence and patient journey that support the care they deliver.

Turn a shared vision into your next step
You do not need to transform everything at once. Start with a conversation with your team: what should your pharmacy be known for, which patient need could you serve better, and what is currently getting in the way?
Use the MCPP resources to give that conversation structure. Then identify the people, processes and digital improvements that will help you act on it.
We are proud to stand behind a movement that connects better care with a stronger pharmacy business. If that is the future you want to build, we would love to see you at the show.
