Great North Pharmacy Research Conference 2027: An Owner’s Evidence Plan

Newcastle’s cross-sector pharmacy conference can turn local improvement work into sharper evidence. Take one unresolved question, a trustworthy baseline and permission to learn.

The distance between a promising pharmacy project and better daily practice is often the evidence handover. Results are discussed, but the question, denominator, limitations and next decision are left behind.

The Great North Pharmacy Research Collaborative Conference 2027 gives pharmacy professionals across community, hospital, primary care and academia a place to close that gap. Owners do not need to become academic researchers for the day. They need one worthwhile question and the discipline to test what the conference can genuinely help them answer.

In brief

When and where is the Great North Pharmacy Research Collaborative Conference 2027?

Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria schedules the Great North Pharmacy Research Collaborative Conference for Friday 9 July 2027, from 8.30am to 5pm, at the Hilton Hotel Tyne Bridge in Newcastle. The official listing says the event expects 250 delegates from hospital, community, primary care and academic settings and will showcase foundation pharmacist projects, practice work and academic research.

  • Bring a decision the pharmacy cannot yet make confidently.
  • Separate research, service evaluation and audit before collecting more data.
  • Leave with an evidence plan, owner and next review—not just interesting findings.

Confirmed Great North Pharmacy Research Collaborative Conference 2027 details

The official Health Innovation NENC event page confirms Friday 9 July 2027 at the Hilton Hotel Tyne Bridge, with published hours of 8.30am to 5pm. It provides a route to register for updates rather than presenting a complete registration package.

The organiser says the annual event has run for seven years and expects 250 delegates in 2027. It describes a cross-sector audience from hospital, community, primary care and local academic institutions, with foundation pharmacist projects, work by pharmacy professionals and academic research due to be showcased.

Those points establish the event, audience and format. They do not establish a final speaker list, programme, ticket price or an automatic place for every person who registers for updates. Check the live page and organiser communications before approving time, travel or an exhibition commitment.

How GNPRC 2027 differs from HSRPP 2027

The names can look close, but the owner intent is different. The Great North conference is a one-day regional, cross-sector event built around sharing pharmacy work, professional development and collaboration across the North East and beyond. Its listing explicitly includes foundation pharmacist projects and practice work as well as research.

The HSRPP 2027 pharmacy practice conference guide covers a separate two-day national research conference at the University of Manchester on 24–25 June. HSRPP has a long-standing academic dissemination focus and its 2027 abstract cycle had already closed when that guide was prepared.

Both events can help a pharmacy use evidence better. They should not share one generic preparation page or compete for the same exact event query. Choose GNPRC when regional cross-sector learning, foundation projects and applied practice connections fit the question; choose HSRPP when the pharmacy needs the specific national health-services-research environment.

Choose a decision the pharmacy cannot yet make confidently

Start with the operating decision, not the method. An owner may need to know why a service attracts bookings but not completions, whether a new supervision model changes competence, which part of a handover creates delay, or whether one branch’s improvement transfers to another.

Write the question in plain English and name the decision it will inform. “Evaluate the service” is incomplete. “Should we extend this appointment model to two more branches, and what evidence would make that safe?” gives the work a boundary.

Check that the pharmacy has influence over the result. A team can examine its booking journey, capacity, follow-up or staff process. It cannot responsibly claim that a local operational change caused a broad clinical or population outcome without an appropriate design and evidence.

Use our pharmacy data analytics guide to define the pathway and denominator. The pharmacy audit guide helps when the question is whether work meets an explicit standard and whether action closed the gap.

Classify research, service evaluation and audit correctly

Similar-looking projects can require different governance. The Health Research Authority says the managing organisation is responsible for determining whether a project is research and provides an official decision route for approvals. Work that is not managed as research may still need local clinical-governance, information-governance, university, commissioner or partner review.

A service evaluation usually asks how an existing service is performing. Audit tests practice against an agreed standard. Research seeks new, transferable knowledge using a defined method. The labels should follow the purpose and design, not the route that appears easiest.

Do not wait until an abstract, poster or external conversation to discover that ownership, approval or consent is unclear. Classify the project early, record the decision, identify the responsible organisation and ask the appropriate governance or research contact when uncertain.

Project typeTypical owner questionEarly control
Service evaluationHow well is the current service meeting its stated aims?Define the service, measures, local review and intended use
Clinical auditDoes current practice meet the selected standard, and did action close the gap?Use an explicit standard, sample rule and remeasurement date
ResearchWhat new, transferable knowledge can a rigorous study produce?Confirm sponsor, approvals, method, information governance and responsibility
Quality improvementCan iterative change make a defined local process better?Set the aim, measures, safeguards and learning cycle

Build an evidence brief before Newcastle

Keep the brief to one page. State the decision, project type, present pathway, baseline, available data, people affected, approvals already in place, uncertainty and the help required. Remove patient-identifiable information; the delegate needs a useful problem, not a portable clinical record.

For each measure, record the source, period, numerator, denominator, exclusions and owner. A headline such as “bookings doubled” is not enough. The result could reflect a longer campaign, more available slots, a tracking change or a different service mix. Bring the context that lets another person challenge the interpretation.

The Information Commissioner’s Office says research safeguards should include technical and organisational measures that respect data minimisation, anonymisation or pseudonymisation where appropriate. Do not put names, contact details, clinical histories or unrestricted exports into a conference slide or shared device merely because the story feels more persuasive with detail.

Use the conference day to test the brief

When the programme is published, select sessions and posters that approach the question from different angles. One may offer a method, another a comparable setting and another a warning about implementation. Do not fill the timetable simply because the event runs for one day.

Ask presenters what the denominator was, how missing data were handled, who was excluded, how long the result lasted and what changed alongside the intervention. For a service project, ask what happened to workload, unsuitable requests, follow-up, incidents and people who did not complete the digital pathway.

Use cross-sector conversation deliberately. A hospital, primary care or academic colleague may see a weakness that a community pharmacy team has normalised. The transfer still needs care: staffing, records, governance, funding and patient populations may differ.

Record three columns after every useful discussion: what appears transferable, what needs checking and who owns the next contact. Do not turn an informal conversation into a partnership announcement or disclose commercially sensitive information without authority.

Convert conference evidence into a 30-day action

Hold a review within five working days. The delegate should explain whether the original question changed, what evidence was strongest, what remains unknown and which next step is proportionate. Possible outcomes include stopping the project, improving the measure, seeking governance advice, finding a collaborator or running a small controlled test.

Give the action one owner, one deadline and one review measure. If the pharmacy needs a partner, define the contribution and data boundary before approaching them. If the idea affects a clinical service, route it through the pharmacy’s clinical governance system.

Make the learning available to the team without overstating it. A poster or conference discussion is not automatically a final standard. Link the source, state the setting and preserve limitations. Revisit the decision after 30 days and record whether the evidence changed what the pharmacy did.
